High Wycombe: A near perfect start

Written by Matt Dodds

High Wycombe u15s got off to an excellent start to the season with two thumping wins over Wendover and Ballinger in the South Bucks premier league.

Playing Wendover first they put together a near-perfect innings on a difficult wet West Wycombe wicket. Starting slowly at first they accelerated through the innings and finished on 183 for the loss of only 1 wicket. Billy Dodds was at his dismissive best and brought up his fifty and retirement with a towering six into the next field. He was ably supported by Mo Zeeshan who contributed 42 runs to their opening partnership of 123. Haider Ali Baig and Mo Babu then took over and thrashed the bowling all around the ground in the final overs, both finishing on 29 not out.

The daunting score was too much for Wendover who struggled to keep up with the rate in the face of some accurate bowling. Once the openers were dismissed the wickets tumbled in quick succession and they finished all out 93 runs short. Billy Dodds finished with the exceptional figures of 5 for 4 and Tom Gear chipped in with 3 for 7.

Next up was Ballinger. They are traditionally very strong at this age and the team was apprehensive going into the game. There followed another stunning performance as Ballinger was skittled out for 44. Mo Babu ran through the team with some fast accurate bowling that they simply had no answers to. Mo finished with figures of 5 for 4 to match Billy in the first game.

A total of 44 was never going to be enough but the way it was chased down was brutal to bowlers and poorly parked cars alike. It took Aarav and Billy 3 overs to knock them off and Billy finished the game with 3 successive sixes, which bounced off a Tesla, a Range Rover and a Fiesta.

Great work from the junior Warriors.
