HWCC u14s consolidated their lead at the top of the table with a soggy win in the rain at Chesham.
The first challenge was finding their 'clearing in the woods' ground at Chesham Bois, which looked like something out of Narnia. A lovely setting, but unfortunately not a lovely wicket! Let's just call it sporty. Chesham won the toss and put us in. Openers Luke and Nithin got us off to a steady start in the initially soft drizzle. But it was tough going as Sophie and Tom also found out. It was time for some momentum which was provided by Mo and his new Charlie French cannon. After smashing the ball into various bushes, nettles and bracken he was finally dismissed for 32 off only 15 balls. A good time not a long time! He was ably supported by Gyn who ran and called well.
At this point we were 6 wickets down, 6 overs to go, on a total of 79 and Chesham were getting very excited. Then out strode Billy Dodds. 27 balls later, including 3 towering sixes, Billy walked off having retired on 50 for the 4th game in succession. 147 was worth about 250 on that wicket and Chesham's task was made more difficult as the rain started to fall even more heavily. It was grim!
They needed a good start. What they didn't need was a rampant Mo charging in from his new long run. He removed the poles of 2 batters in the first over and terrified those waiting to come in.
From that point, the wickets and the rain continued to fall steadily. Shane, Gyn, Tom and Rishon all took wickets but the battle of the Soudarsanan brothers was won by little brother Kavin, who nipped one out with a fine delivery to ensure he enjoyed a smug journey home. As soon as the match was over the heavens opened and we all rushed to the cars.
Another good performance in difficult conditions and lots of fun. Well done everyone, let's keep improving.
